    God’s Call, God’s Promise

    God’s Call, God’s Promise

Isaiah 41:1-10 Many events shape a person’s life, but none have the lasting effect of the salvation experience.  From day one God is involved and will stay engaged in our lives because He has a vested interest, the blood of His Son Jesus.  Whatever trial may come our way God is there because:   1.  We have always been a part of God’s eternal plan (vs.8-9a) "But you, O Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendants of Abraham my friend, I took you from the ends of the earth,”
    • He has called us (v. 9b, Matthew 28:19)
I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. Matt 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
    • He has commissioned us (v.9c, John 15:15)
I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, 'You are my servant'. John 15:15 I no longer call you servants…Instead, I have called you friends,
    • He has chosen us (v.9d, 1 Peter 1:1-2)
I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, 'You are my servant'; I have chosen you and have not rejected you. 1 Peter 1:1-2 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God's elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance. 2.  We have and always will be sustained (Hebrews 1:3a) through him, because (Is.41:10):
    •  His presence is always near (v.10a, Psalm 16:11)
So do not fear, for I am with you; Ps 16:11 You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
    • His assurance is always complete (v.10b, 1 Timothy 3:13)
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.   1 Tim 3:13 Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.
    • His support is always available (v.10c, Psalm 65:9)
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you Ps 65:9 You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it.
    • His strength is my lasting promise (v.10d, Phil.4:13)
    So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Phil 4:13 For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need. NLT Closing:  God knows (Psalm 18:35-36, Eph.6:12, Psalm 119:116-117a) Ps 18:35-36 You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn. Eph. 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ps 119:116-117 Sustain me according to your promise, and I will live; do not let my hopes be dashed. Uphold me, and I will be delivered;
  • Nov 18, 2012Redeemed
    Nov 18, 2012

Revelation 21:1-22:5 The study of eschatology ends with this one great event, the creation of a New Heavens and a New Earth.  God will fully redeem all of His creation whether on earth or in the heavens and we will be with God and the Lamb in the New Jerusalem forever.  Today we will scripturally explore our new home, it consists of: A new universe (Rev.21:1) “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.”   1.  How will it happen? (2 Peter 3:11-12) “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.” 2.  Why will it happen? (2 Peter 3:13) “But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.”
    • It is the completion of redemption
    • It removes all reminders of sin
    • It represents the completion of righteousness
A new earth (Rev.21:2, 10) “I saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband…And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.” 1.  It is the hope of God’s people (Hebrews 11:10, Isaiah 60:18-20) “For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.” Isa 60:18-20 “No longer will violence be heard in your land, nor ruin or destruction within your borders, but you will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise. The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.  Your sun will never set again, and your moon will wane no more; the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your days of sorrow will end.”   2.  It is the dwelling place of God (Rev.21:2) “I saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.” 3.  It is the throne room of God (Rev.22:3-4, Matt 5:8) “The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.”   Matt 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” 4.  It is the symbolic bride of Christ (Rev.21:9-10, Gal.4:26) “One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, "Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb." And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.”   Gal 4:26 “But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.” 5.  It is the new Holy of Holies (Rev. 21:22, 21:15-16) “I did not see a temple in the city, because of the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.”   Rev 21:15-16 “The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city, its gates and its walls. The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia in length, and as wide and high as it is long.”   6.  It is the completion of God’s redemptive work (Rev.21:5a, 6a) “He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!"…He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.” Closing:  From now to then (Matthew 25:31-40, Is 43:19, Rev.22:17, 20) Isa 43:19 “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.” Rev 22:17, 20 “The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life…He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon."

    Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.”

    The Great White Throne Judgement

    The Great White Throne Judgment

Revelation Chapter 20 The Final Judgment is God’s conclusive determination proclaiming man’s eternal destiny.  Three events take place between the Millennial reign of Christ and this righteous judgment:
    • The unbelief of the nations
    • The rebellion against the headship and authority of Christ
    • The release of Satan from his prison
    1.  These three happenings will result in:
    • A final battle to subdue Satan (Rev. 20:7-10)
Rev 20:10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
    • The final sentence of the unbeliever (Rev.20:11-15)
Rev 20:15 If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. 2.  How is the “lake of fire” (Hell or Hades) described in the Bible?  It is a place of:
    • Extreme suffering (Rev 20:10)
They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. “
    • Unsatisfied desires (Luke 16:19-31)
Luke 16:24 “Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.”
    • Shame and contempt (Daniel 12:2)
“Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.”
    • Vile companions (Rev.21:8)
Rev 21:8 “But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars — their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."
    • Unrelenting hopelessness Matthew 25:41, Isaiah 66:24)
Matt 25:41 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” Isa 66:24 And they will go out and look upon the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind."   3.  As a believer what is my responsibility:
    • Blow the trumpet (Joel 2:1)
Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill. Let all who live in the land tremble, for the day of the LORD is coming. It is close at hand”
    • Be the Watchman for others (Ezekiel 33:6-9)
Ezek 33:7 "Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.
    • It is to minister (James 5:19-20, Matthew 28:19)
James 5:19-20 My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins.   Matt 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."   Closing:  God’s Word says:  (John 12:31, Hebrews 9:27, Romans 10:14-15) John 12:31 “Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out.” Heb 9:27 “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,” Rom 10:14-15 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"

    The Millennial Reign

    The Millennial Reign (Part One)

    Isaiah 65:17-19, Rev.20:1-6

The Millennial Reign will be preceded by these five events:
    • The Rapture (1 Thess.4:16-17)
    • The Great Tribulation (Rev.6:12-17)
    • The Battle of Armageddon (Rev.16:13-16, 17:12-14)
    • The Salvation of Israel (Ezekiel 37:26-28)
    • The Triumphal Entry of Christ (Rev. 19:11-16)
The Millennial reign is prophesied about by Isaiah, Daniel, Micah and Zechariah and is not a figurative, mythical or allegorical event. 1.  The Millennial reign of Christ is literal, as it is the promise to:
    • The nation of Israel (Isaiah 61:6)
“And you will be called priests of the LORD, you will be named ministers of our God. You will feed on the wealth of nations, and in their riches you will boast.”
    • The person of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:9-10)
“And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment — to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.” 2.  The Earth will be populated by:
    • The converted Jews from the tribulation (Rev. 7:1-4)
    • The converted Gentile multitudes coming out of the tribulation (Rev.7:9-14)
    • The Saints of all ages (Zechariah 14:3-5)
    • Those who have survived the tribulation (Zechariah 14:16)
      3.   Who will reign with Jesus? (Matthew 19:28, Revelation 20:4-6)
    • The disciples (Matt.19:28)
“Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”
    • The martyred (Rev.20:4)
“I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.”   Closing:  What a day that will be (Isaiah 65:17-19)   Isa 65:17-19 "Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy. I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more.”

    Thankfully Absent
Thankfully Absent Daniel 9:25-27, Matthew 24:15 Matt 24:15 "So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination that causes desolation,' spoken of through the prophet Daniel — let the reader understand” The Tribulation period which takes place after the Rapture of the church will last for seven years (the 70th 7) spoken of by Daniel.  The seven years will be divided into two three and one half year periods.  The first characterized by peace the other by unprecedented turmoil. Thoughts concerning the Tribulation period: 1.  The ruler who will broker the peace accord is the unrevealed anti-Christ (1 John 2:18, Dan.9:27a, 2 Thess. 2:5-10) 1 John 2:18 “Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour” Dan 9:27 “He will confirm a covenant with many for one 'seven” 2.  The ruler will break the covenant with Israel after three and one half years (Dan.9:27b, 2 Thess. 2:1-4 Revelation 12:17-13:8) Dan 9:27 “In the middle of the 'seven' he will put an end to sacrifice and offering.   2 Thess 2:1-4 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy, report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that the day of the Lord has already come. Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God. 3.  The importance of the temple and the “abomination that causes desolation” (Daniel 9:27, Matthew 24:15, Daniel 12:9-12) Dan.9:27 And on a wing [of the temple] he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him."   Matt 24:15 "So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination that causes desolation,' spoken of through the prophet Daniel — let the reader understand”   4.  The unleashing of Satan’s relentless fury and Christ’s response (Matthew 24:15-21, Revelation 6:1-17)   5.  The tribulation and the role of the anti-Christ end with our Lord’s Second Coming (Matthew 24:23-27)   Matt 24:23-27 At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect — if that were possible. See, I have told you ahead of time. "So if anyone tells you, 'There he is, out in the desert,' do not go out; or, 'Here he is, in the inner rooms,' do not believe it. For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.   Closing:  Our Triumphant Lord (Revelation 19:11-20:2)
  • Oct 21, 2012Away We Go
    Oct 21, 2012
    Away We Go

    Away We Go

1 Corinthians 15:50-52, Titus 2:11-13, Job 14:14, 19:25-27 Job 14:14 “If a man dies, will he live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait for my renewal to come.” Job 19:25-27 “I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth.   And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes — I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me! “ Since the time of Christ, Christians have lived with the expectation of His return. The words of the apostle’s reveal not only this hope but the firm belief that we need to be prepared and ready for this “blessed” event.  As believers we understand that: 1.  This “blessed hope” is guaranteed through Christ’s resurrection (1 Cor.15:12-23,                     1 Peter 1:3)   1 Peter 1:3 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,” 2.  This “blessed hope” is realized through the Spirit (2 Cor.5:4-5, Romans 8:11) “For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” Rom 8:11 “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.” 3.  This “blessed hope” achieves our own glorification (1 Corinthians 15:51-55) 4.  This “blessed hope” precedes the tribulation (1 Thess.1:9b-10, 5:1-3, 9) “They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead — Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.” 1 Thess 5:1-3, 9 Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape….For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ 5.  This “blessed hope” introduces our eternal reward
    • Wedding Supper of the Lamb (Matthew 26:28-29, Matthew 25:1-13, Rev.19:6-9)
Matt 26:28-29 “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom." Rev 19:6-9 “Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: "Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear."  (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.)  Then the angel said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!'" And he added, "These are the true words of God."
    • Judgment seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10, 1 Sam.26:23, Matt.16:27)
2 Cor 5:10 “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” 1 Sam 26:23 “The LORD rewards every man for his righteousness and faithfulness” Matt 16:27 “For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done.” Closing:  The rapture is called the “blessed hope” because:
    • It is imminent (Revelation 22:20)
“He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon."  Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.”
    • It is our eternal blessing (Titus 2:11-13, 2 Thess.2:6-8, Hebrews 10:25)
Titus 2:11-13 “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope — the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,” 2 Thess 2:6-8 “And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming.” Heb 10:25 “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
